Explore, present and share with visualizations

NVivo 11 for Windows provides a comprehensive suite of visualizations that help you to gain deeper insights from your data. Explore and unearth patterns, trends and connections. Create effective visual outputs to share your findings in reports, publications and presentations.

Coding stripes and highlights

See how data has been coded by displaying coloured coding stripes and highlighting - a great way to review and manage coding as you work.

See where you're up to, review your progress and uncode, or quickly correct your coding if you change your mind. You can show up to 200 coding stripes, and even print coding stripes to review in hard copy or share.

If multiple people are coding, use coding stripes to view and compare coding, and check for consistency. If you're working in a team with NVivo Pro or NVivo Plus you can
see one, or several team members' coding.

See a visual representation of your data with Charts. Chart coding, sources and nodes. Choose from multiple chart types and options to see the spread of themes, participants and data sources

Discover key emerging themes across all of your data, or from single sources. Track your analysis as you progress, and export findings to share conclusions.
Word trees
Search for words and phrases using Text Search queries, then visualize results in a Word Tree. See the context surrounding words and phrases from across your data. Discover recurring themes and phrases that surround a word of interest that can take you down new paths of investigation and directions for your research.
Word clouds

Quickly discover the most frequently occurring words and phrases in your data using Word Frequency Queries and display your results in a Word Cloud, where font sizes represent how frequently terms occur. You can choose to visualize the key terms within specific data sources, themes or across your whole project. Choose from a gallery of stunning options and create outputs that can be added to reports or shared in presentations

Explore diagrams

Explore Diagrams let you explore the connections between your project items visually. See how project items relate to a central item and navigate through the connections to go deeper. Use Explore Diagrams to quickly and easily discover and share the connections that are forming in your data as you're moving through your analysis.

Comparison Diagrams

Comparison Diagrams offer a quick and easy method to visualize the similarities and differences between project items throughout your research process. Visually compare two sources, nodes or cases to quickly see what they share in common and what is different.

Mind Maps

Use Mind Maps as a brainstorming tool and to visualize your thoughts and ideas. Start with a central topic or main idea, then map out ideas that relate to the central topic with connectors and shapes. Reflect on what you think about a topic quickly and spontaneously while ideas are flowing.

Use Mind Maps at the beginning of a project to explore expectations and initial theories, then later on map out and create your node structure visually. Mind Maps are available in NVivo Pro and NVivo Plus.

Project Maps

NVivo Pro and NVivo Plus include Project Maps - visual representations of the different items in your project. Create a Project Map to analyze and present connections in your data. Use them to display the items and links in your project, develop ideas, build theory and make decisions. Visually represent links between project items and keep a visual record of stages throughout a project lifespan.

Concept Maps

Available in NVivo Pro and NVivo Plus, Concept Maps are free-form visualizations that help you to define concepts and think through their connections. Use Concept Maps to map out your ideas and knowledge, and to explore and present connections in your theories.

Cluster analysis
Available in NVivo Pro and NVivo Plus, Cluster Analysis offers a visual way to see similarities and differences in your data by grouping sources or nodes that share similar words, similar attribute values, or are coded similarly. You can use Cluster Analysis to reduce the number of sources you need to read and examine when analyzing articles - quickly find out which articles are almost identical to others you've already studied. Discover survey respondents or interview participants who share similar views, or conversely, discover those who have polar views.
Hierarchical Charts

Available in NVivo Pro and NVivo Plus, tree maps and sunbursts use nested shapes of varying sizes and colors to visualize and compare data and themes, and see how data has been categorizedUse them to easily visualize the key emergent themes in your data as you work through your analysis. Discover the sub-themes that contribute to the primary themes. Answer questions like, "Are themes evenly spread over my sources, or are they coming from a small group?".

Capture data from Facebook and Twitter using NCapture, and at the click of a button you'll have a map showing where contributors are located. Pins represent the location of users based on information from the user's profile. Available in NVivo Pro and NVivo Plus, Geovisualizations assist with decision making and provide a visual way to present findings in reports.

Using NVivo Plus, create Egocentric Sociograms to see all Cases connected to one central Case (the Ego), and Network Sociograms to visualize connections among a group of Cases. Sociograms allow you to perform social network analysis so you can identify leaders and influencers, reveal vulnerable populations and study flows of information.

Twitter sociograms

Capture and import Twitter datasets using NCapture, and then in one click, see the network of Twitter users and how they are connected by retweets and mentions. Perform social network analysis on Twitter users and discover influencers and thought leaders on topics you're investigating. Twitter sociograms are available in NVivo Plus.

"Having a visual diagram that connects all of the project pieces together makes it easier to understand the story of the data."

Richard SoRelle, Senior Research Assistant, CEPACT

"I love the sociograms. They give me an exciting new way to get insights on my study participants."

Sabrina Chase, PhD, Rutgers School of Nursing

"The comparison diagrams make it easy to understand how the data all fits together. It can also be used to show people who are less familiar with the data how it fits together."

Richard SoRelle, Senior Research Assistant, CEPACT
