Question Can I upgrade from a 32-bit version of NVivo 10 to a 64-bit version of NVivo 10?
Answer

Both a 32-bit version and a 64-bit version of NVivo 10 are available.

The 64-bit version of NVivo 10 can only be installed on computers that are running a 64-bit version of the Windows 7 or Windows 8 operating system.

If you’re running a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or Windows 8, and you are working with the 32-bit version of NVivo 10, upgrading to the 64-bit version of NVivo 10 is free. However, you will need to deactivate and uninstall your 32-bit version of NVivo 10 prior to installing the new 64-bit version.

To deactivate your license:

  1. Make sure that you are connected to the Internet.
  2. If you have an NVivo project open, you must close the project before you can deactivate the license.
  3. Click the File tab, point to Help, and then click Deactivate License.
  4. Click Yes to confirm.

NVivo deactivates the license and displays a message to confirm that the license has been deactivated.
  5. Click OK.

The NVivo application automatically closes.

Please note however, that some video files with a .mov or .qt extension may not play with the 64-bit version of NVivo. Please refer to Are there any known issues in NVivo 10? for further information.
